QUANTUM THEORY OF RADIATION
According to Max plant a hot body radiates energy not in continuous wave but in small units of wave. These units of waves a pulse of energy is called as quantum (Plural quantum).
This theory proposed that the light is emitted in the form of quanta by the excited atoms, or molecules. These quanta of light energy are called as photon. The energy of a photon is given by.

This relation shows that Energy “E” of a photon will be greater if the photon has greater frequency “v”.

gives the energy ”E” of photon. An atom or molecule can emit energy either one quanta of energy or any multiple of it, never in fractions.
