Atomic Structure

DIFFERENCE OF WAVE NUMBER () BETWEEN TWO LEVELS:-
            The velocity of the radiation emitted when electron jumps from higher energy level to lower energy level is given by the equation.
                         .                                   (1)
            Where l = wave length of emitted radiation
            v= frequency of radiation.
            Arranging equation      (1)

              `                                   (2)

 As wave number   l    is the reciprocal of wave length i.e. wave number         therefore equation 2 can be written as

            As

Therefore                    (3)

We also know the frequency of the emitted radiation from the following equation.

Putting value of v in equation    (3)

As

This equation shows the wave number of the emitted radiation the value  is a constant and is called as Ryderg’s constant, denoted by R.
Therefore
